Reiss Jensen Named Winner in National Spanish Exam Competition

2016 May 25

Students in advanced Spanish classes at LFA took the 2016 National Spanish Exam in early spring to qualify for awards in Spanish proficiency. The annual exam is distributed by The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and aims to measure the reading, listening, and writing skills of students learning Spanish in secondary schools.

Notably, thirty-four LFA students were recognized by the AATSP for their academic excellence in Spanish, earning four gold medals, thirteen silver medals, seventeen bronze medals, and twenty-eight honorable mentions. Reiss was the recipient of a Silver Medal.

Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, explains that attaining a medal or honorable mention is extremely prestigious. "The exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 160,000 students participating in 2016." LFA Spanish Language Faculty Noelle Balson, Tameka Carter, and Maggie Boomgaarden congratulate Reiss on this wonderful achievement.
