Ella Ekstrom recognized at Move-Up Day

2015 Jun 11

The 2015 Move-Up Day Ceremony at LFA took place in the Formal Gardens on Friday, May 29th. Move-Up Day, originally called Ivy Day, is a Ferry Hall tradition that began in the early 20th century. The event celebrates the end of the school year and has grown into a full ceremony that includes giving out awards, the announcement of the winning House for the House Cup Competition, and a physical "moving up" of each grade level.

At this year's ceremony, various students received awards for showing dedication to keeping the four pillars of Lake Forest Academy: character, scholarship, responsibility, and citizenship. Ella received the Jewel J. Jackson Award, which is presented to the junior who best exemplifies the spirit and ideals of LFA.

Spanish Language Instructor Val Sorenson says, "Ella is an exceptionally cheerful student. Her strength of character is evident in her friendly demeanor and great attitude in class. In her schoolwork she is like a bottomless sponge, absorbing each word and reproducing it nearly flawlessly."

After the recognition of faculty, the student body participated in the "Move-Up" process. Seniors were invited to stand up from their seats and proceed to alumni section of the audience. Juniors then moved to the seating for seniors and the underclassmen took their new respective spots afterwards. The ceremony ended with the presentation of the Alumni Banner to the Class of 2015.
