Dieter Villegas recognized at Move-Up Day

2015 Jun 11

The 2015 Move-Up Day Ceremony at LFA took place in the Formal Gardens on Friday, May 29th. Move-Up Day, originally called Ivy Day, is a Ferry Hall tradition that began in the early 20th century. The event celebrates the end of the school year and has grown into a full ceremony that includes giving out awards, the announcement of the winning House for the House Cup Competition, and a physical "moving up" of each grade level.

At this year's ceremony, various students received awards for showing dedication to keeping the four pillars of Lake Forest Academy: character, scholarship, responsibility, and citizenship. Dieter received the Johnathan Fremd Award, which is presented to the freshman who has best exemplified the spirit and ideals of LFA.

Math Instructor Loring Strudwick says, "Dieter is incredibly responsible, independent, and organized. He played varsity soccer, he is on student council this year and next...and he is doing extremely well in all his classes. Dieter is humble about his accomplishments, interested in helping others, and welcoming and respectful to all students and faculty."

After the recognition of faculty, the student body participated in the "Move-Up" process. Seniors were invited to stand up from their seats and proceed to alumni section of the audience. Juniors then moved to the seating for seniors and the underclassmen took their new respective spots afterwards. The ceremony ended with the presentation of the Alumni Banner to the Class of 2015.
