Since 1923, the New York-based Scholastic Art and Writing Awards has celebrated talented young individuals. It is now the nation's largest youth art and writing contest, boasting alumni such as Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Zac Posen, and Alan Arkin.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of creative pieces from artists, writers, poets, filmmakers, and photographers are submitted to the program. Only 0.25% of the submissions earn a National Gold Medal while 5 to 10% win Regional Gold Key awards.
