Ayotola Odebiyi participates in first Caxy Dance Showcase

2014 Apr 29

The first Caxy Dance Showcase took place on Saturday, April 26 at 7:00 pm in the Cressey Center for the Arts. Ayotola Odebiyi and thirteen other students worked hard to create an exciting production.

Sophia Platcow and India Shelley organized the event to spread awareness about the dance program at LFA. They invited the McNulty School of Irish Dance, a company that teaches Irish dance, and COLLAGE, the Highland Park High School's Fine Arts Dance troupe, to perform. Nine LFA students also chose to participate in the showcase.

Junior Grace Kasten, a member of the Irina Makkai Classical Ballet and Dance School, performed dances from Don Quixote and Black Swan. Additionally, Maame Addae, Nubia Beasley-Bartee, Darlene Ineza, Perculiar Adimabua, Abena Bosompem, Ayo Odebiyi, Emily Meyer, and another student showed off three different dance styles as members of LFA's International Dance Crew.

The production staff was made up of Miriam Fraga, Maggie Meyer, and Nancy Yuchen Chen. Miriam was in charge of lights, Maggie controlled the sound, and Nancy developed the program cover. Monica Palmer, the Director of the Fine and Performing Arts, credits the success of last Saturday's production to her students and hopes that many Caxy Dance Showcases will be produced in the future.
